Sparking action
to change the world, 1,000 days at a time.
1,000 Days powers change through a community of partners and parents who are committed to ensuring every child gets the healthiest start to life. With more than 100 partners and over 250,000 grassroots supporters, we drive action to enable children everywhere to reach their full potential and are a leading advocacy voice on the issues that affect babies, toddlers and the people who love them.
We build partnerships and coalitions to protect and strengthen programs that are critical lifelines for mothers, babies, and toddlers in the U.S. and throughout the world. We are proud to work with leading organizations like the World Bank, the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF and philanthropies such as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the W.K. Kellogg Foundation and the David and Lucile Packard Foundation to help women and young children everywhere to have a brighter future.
But when it comes to ensuring infants and toddlers get a strong start, we know that mothers are the most critical force for change. Mothers are at the center of our work because when they have the knowledge and resources they need to care for themselves and their families, children thrive and so do their communities and societies. We provide a platform for women the world over to tell their own stories, in their own words, and give them opportunities to take action on the issues they care about. We ask them what matters to them and we listen. Their voices and experiences inform our policy and advocacy work and fuel our commitment to our mission.
In the U.S. and around the world, we are fighting to:
- We work to understand the challenges mothers face during their children’s first 1,000 days and we share their stories to drive change.
- 1,000 Days runs grassroots campaigns in the U.S. to build political support for paid parental leave, healthcare and global and domestic nutrition programs.
- 1,000 Days leads the International Coalition for Advocacy on Nutrition (ICAN), a group of over 30 organizations driving the action and financing needed to end malnutrition.
- Teaming up with WHO and UNICEF, 1,000 Days launched the Global Breastfeeding Collective to rally support for breastfeeding.
