Helping parents and caregivers understand why the first 1,000 days matter.

Parents and caregivers are the most important and influential people in a young child’s life. They help shape a child’s health and development in a multitude of ways, especially when it comes to how they feed the babies and toddlers in their care. Along with the right support, parents need the right information at the right time in order to make decisions about feeding their children.

Based on research we conducted, we know that parents are hungry for trusted and practical resources to help them feed their little ones, but they often get conflicting or confusing messages. This led us to build a campaign to empower moms, dads and other caregivers with the knowledge and skills they need to nourish strong beginnings.

In the U.S. and around the world, we are fighting to:

  • 1,000 Days teamed up with experts at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to create baby and toddler feeding resources.
  • We develop and share bite-sized how-to guides for parents on the what, when and how to feed babies.
  • 1,000 Days advocates for evidence-based dietary guidelines for pregnant women and children under 2.
  • We partner with groups to educate expectant mothers and parents of young children on the importance of good nutrition in the first 1,000 days.

Our Work & Impact

We lead the fight to make health and well-being during the first 1,000 days a policy and funding priority.
